Thann

General

Thann is a town in the Alscace region of France.  The Jewish community reached its peak in 1885, with a population of about 630.  By the start of World War II, the population had dropped to less than 100, and these Jews were deported to the south of France with the rest of the Jews from Alscace-Lorraine.  The below postcard the interior of the synagogue in Thann which was heavily damaged during the First World War.  This synagogue was reconstructed after the war.
