Opole (Oppeln) is a port city on the Odra River in southwestern Poland, about 50 kilometers (about 30 miles) from the border with the Czech Republic. The city was under the control of Prussia and then Germany until the end of World War II. The postcard below depicts, immediately behind the building in the foreground, the domes of the synagogue in Opole (Oppeln).
