General

    Cape Town was the site of the earliest Jewish settlement in South Africa.  Identifiable Jewish settlement began with the British takeover of the colony in 1805.  

    The postcard below depicts the Old Shul in Cape Town, which is the oldest (1862) synagogue in South Africa.
