Meron is a village in the upper Galilee, mentioned by Josephus as a village fortified by him in 66 a.d. The village is associated with the second century talmudic sage, Simon bar Yohai. According to tradition, he is buried in the village. The present day village stands near the remains of an ancient synagogue of the early Galilean type.
