Klinkerwerke

 

    Klinkerwerke was a subcamp of Sachsenhausen with up to 2,500 prisoners.  The camp belonged to the Deutsche Erd- und Steinwerke (DEST) which was one of the largest SS economic enterprises.  This camp was primarily used for operating a quarry and making bricks.

Lettercards

     Below are thumbnails of two lettercards.  The first is postmarked September 9,1945, from an inmate at the Klinkerwerke camp, and is identified in Lordahl as Type L1a with a Type C9 censor mark.  The second is postmarked June 23, 1944, from an inmate at the Klinkerwerke camp, Josef Schellong, and is identified in Lordahl as Type L1a with a Type C9 censor mark.  Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image, and then click your back key or "Lettercards" in the left frame to return.
