Below is a thumbnail of a cover sent from the Warsaw Ghetto (address, Sienna 76/26) postmarked Warsaw, January 21, 1941 (prior to the use of Judenrat cachets). The cover was addressed to Frau S.R. Gutman at the Internierungslager Fuer Auslaender (Internment Camp for Foreigners) at Kaiserdam 1, Berlin. However, this was the address of the Gestapo police prison in Berlin. The cover was opened for censorship and resealed with plain tape and stamped "Gepreuft" (censored). It also bears the usual round "Gehime Staatzspolizei" censor cachet, a processing stamp "Abteilung II (designation for all political Gestapo departments, and a penciled notation "Aushaendigen am Datum 3.2.41" (handed over per date 3.2.41). It is likely that this letter was forwarded to the location in Liebenau below (same adressee). Below are thumbnails of the front and back of two covers. The first cover is postmarked August 28, 1941, from Warsaw addressed to the same Frau S.R. Gutman as in Berlin above. She was now interned at an internment camp in Liebenau, near Ravensburg. Plain censor tape was applied as well as a "Geheime Staatspolizei Grenzpolizeikommissariat Friedrichshafen" censor cachet. Postage was not required since it was internment mail. The second cover was sent from the same camp to the International Red Cross in Switzerland by an internee, Helga Hornung.
