Dora (Mittelbau I)

    Dora was originally a subcamp of Buchenwald,  When the facilities became independent of Buchenwald in 1944, the camp was officially designated as Mittelbau I, but retained the Dora name.

 

Postcards

    Below are thumbnails of various postcards from prisoners at the Dora camp. The first is a postcard from Opotshno to a prisoner, Franz Vacek postmarked January 25, 1945.  The letter "D" next to his prisoner number is an abbreviation for Dora.   Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image, and then click your back key or "Postcard 1" in the left frame to return.

    The second postcard is from Petrikau to a prisoner, L. Rozycki postmarked December 7, 1944.  The letter "D" next to his prisoner number is an abbreviation for Dora.   Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image, and then click your back key or "Postcard 2" in the left frame to return.

    The third postcard is from a prisoner to Krakau postmarked January 21,1945.  The letter "D" next to his prisoner number is an abbreviation for Dora. This postcard is identified in Lordahl as Type PO5 with a Type C12a censor mark and a Type SC16 special cachet.  Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image, and then click your back key or "Postcard 3" in the left frame to return.

    The fourth postcard is from a prisoner, Rudolf Leman, to Bohemia postmarked February 15,1945.  The stamped "D" next to his prisoner number is an abbreviation for Dora.  This postcard is identified in Lordahl as Type PO5 with a Type C12a censor mark and a Type SC16 special cachet.  Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image, and then click your back key or "Postcard 4" in the left frame to return.
