Moringen

 

General

    Moringen, a town northeast of Gottingen in the Hannover Province, was the site of a camp from 1933-45.  The camp was opened in March, 1933, and by October, 1933, it was decided to make the camp for women only.  At its peak, there were 450 female prisoners.  Beginning in December, 1937, the prisoners were transferred to a new facilities at Lichtenburg.  This transfer was completed in March, 1938, and the camp was closed.  In August, 1940, the camp reopened primarily to house young criminals, with the goal of re-education.  The camp continued to operate until April, 1945.
