Pacanow, Poland

 

General

    Pacanow was a small town in the Kielce district of Poland.  In 1921, the Jewish population was about 1,700 out of a total population of 2,600.  A ghetto was established in September, 1942, with a population of about 2,000 including refugees.  The ghetto was liquidated on October, 1942, with most of the Jews being deported to the Treblinka death camp.

Postcard

    Below are thumbnails of the front and back of a postcard sent by the Judenrat in Pacanow to the Judenrat in the Lodz ghetto, postmarked September 30, 1942.  The card inquires as to the status of three families and contains a red 2-line Der jud.
