Osjakow was a town in the Lodz district of Poland. In October, 1939, 600 Jews were placed in a ghetto, and in august, 1942, the remaining Jews were sent to Wielun and from there to the Lodz ghetto and Chelmno death camp.
Below are thumbnails of the front and back of a postcard sent by Nochem Gerst in Osjakow to the Judenrat in the Lodz ghetto, postmarked October 30, 1941. There is a handwritten message inquiring about a person named Pola Kalisz. There is a short reply in green. Please click on the thumbnail to see the full image, and then click your back key or "Postcard" in the left frame to return.
