Gorzkowice, Poland

 

General

    Gorzkowice was home to a small Jewish community affiliated with the community in Krasnystaw.  A Judenrat was established after the German occupation in September, 1939.  Deportations to Belzec began in 1940, and in Novemebr, 1942, all the remaining Jews were deported to the Izbica Ghetto and from there to Belzec.

    Below are thumbnails of the front and back of a postcard sent by the Judenrat in Gorzkowice to the Judenrat in the Lodz Ghetto, postmarked June 29, 1942.  The card bears a red circular Judenrat cachet on the front and back.  The card is an inquiry regarding a B.
