Capernaum was an ancient village on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee. In the New Testament, it is stated that Jesus preached at the synagogue in Capernaum. At least five of the apostles were fishermen from the village. The remains of a synagogue were excavated there in 1905. This synagogue dates from the second or early third century and is one of the best preserved Galilean synagogues of this early type. The following two postcards depict these ruins.
