General

    Jews settled in the town after the 1848 revolution and, by 1870, grew to about 300.  By 1930, the Jewish population had decreased to about 120.  In 1942, the remaining Jews were deported to Theresienstadt and from there to various death camps.  Below is a thumbnail of a postally used postcard depicting the synagogue in Caslav which was consecrated in 1900.
